Our Story

Camp Hill Kindy was established in 1944, in the Camp Hill School of Arts, where the Kindy welcomed its first families and offered children their earliest learning experiences outside the home. After WWII, the Management Committee sought land for a purpose-built centre. When suitable vacant land could not be secured, a house was purchased on Old Cleveland Road, which became the Kindy’s home for many years.

By the 1960s, the Kindy had grown into a vibrant community hub, creating a need for more space. In 1964, construction began on a new double‑unit centre on Wiles Street, marking the start of a lasting community legacy. The first building opened in 1965, and when structural issues later emerged, the community once again came together. In 1989, the centre was rebuilt: the building we proudly call home today.

Camp Hill Kindy is built on the traditional lands of the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of the land. We are also grateful to the past communities of families who have contributed to the building, management, and operation of our Kindy. The families who honour our past and invest in our children’s future.

Our Values

At Camp Hill Kindy, play is at the heart of learning. Through play, especially in nature, children explore, connect and make sense of their world. Our educators support an emergent, child‑led curriculum that builds on each child’s interests, strengths and cultural background. We work in partnership with families and value the diversity within our community.

Our Kindy provides a safe, caring and engaging environment where children grow in confidence, resilience and curiosity. We nurture their physical, social, emotional, creative and cognitive development through rich, meaningful experiences. We aim to nurture happy, healthy and capable learners who value diversity and fairness.

Our Spaces

Our Kindy is a hidden gem, nestled between the Camp Hill Fire Station and Camp Hill State School, and sheltered by well-established trees. It offers an expansive, natural outdoor play space where children can thrive.

The outdoor space features a newly built playground (Q4 2025) with forts for imaginative play, monkey bars and swings for physical growth, a digging patch for little explorers, a vegetable garden for hands-on sustainable learning, a yarning circle that honours those who came before us while we create new memories together, and a fairy garden for a sprinkle of magic. The play space also includes a covered sandpit, and ample space to run around.

The classrooms are carefully designed to provide the best possible environment for all children to learn, develop and thrive. The spaces are inviting, where each child actively contributes to the harmonious atmosphere, supporting their feeling of belonging.

The classrooms are spacious and offer opportunities for quiet reading, imaginative play, block building, puzzles, singing, dancing, and artistic and creative pursuits. These activities help children develop friendships, enhance their skill and understanding of the world around them, and become more independent and resilience.

President's Message

“Welcome to our community kindergarten! Our Kindy is a warm, welcoming place where children are encouraged to be curious, confident, and themselves. From the moment families join our community, they become part of a supportive and inclusive environment that values connection, play, and learning.

As a community-run Kindy, we are proud of the strong partnerships between our educators, families, and committee. Together, we create a nurturing space where children can explore, build friendships, and develop a lifelong love of learning through play-based experiences.

Our passionate educators are at the heart of everything we do, providing thoughtful guidance and care while celebrating each child’s unique strengths and interests. Just as importantly, our sense of community ensures that families feel supported, involved, and truly connected.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about our Kindy. We hope our website gives you a sense of the warmth, values, and care that make our Kindy such a special place.”
